The two weeks after I got back from England were ‘normal’ – no real events, catching up at home and at work.
As with last year, unfortunately, a lot of our Savoynet cast came down with COVID – mostly after the show, although it turned out that that was what had done in one of our choristers who’d dropped out a few days before the show. I myself did not get it (I think, I tested negative 3 times), but I did have respiratory crapola going on – I think due to hay fever. It settled in my chest, which was unfortunate. The first Thursday back was our annual company summer outing – which I was looking forward to, it was a boat trip out of Chelsea Piers – but I woke up feeling so crappy that I called in sick and missed it.
The second week was mostly about watching the Democratic convention, which was fun fun fun! I got a lot of knitting done. I also went into the office on Wednesday, where (a) the place I was going to get breakfast was closed for renovations, (b) the substitute breakfast I got leaked coffee, causing the bag to split and spill coffee all over the elevator lobby when I got to the office, and (c) I finally had to give up and admit I was never going to find the building pass I’d lost a few weeks ago, and ask for another one – for which they charge quite a large replacement fee. Ugh. “Just another whacked-out Wednesday”, I posted on FB.
The rest of that day got better. I was thinking about trying to go see “Once Upon a Mattress” after work, but decided to run errands instead and go home and watch the convention. I walked over to Grand Central, bought some girly hand creams (for me) and some Swatches for my great-niece and -nephew (there has got to be a good collective noun for these little munchkins – maybe ‘great-nieblings’). Then over to “Uncle Charlie’s” for a cocktail, where I ran into old friend and fellow brass player, David W, so that was fun.
Yeah, so that was about it for two ‘normal’ weeks.
I then went on my final adventure for this summer, a road trip (which I’m wrapping up now) that I’ll cover in detail in future posts.
And my tenth wedding anniversary is tomorrow. The feelings, as you can imagine, are mixed.
