Very normal

October’s nice so far. I’ve deliberately had not much on the calendar, and am actually getting some stuff done (although there’s always more that I beat myself up about.)

I somehow got the impulse to start doing this particular Jane Fonda exercise video again. I’ve been doing it for decades, it’s not hard at all (‘low impact’), but it’s actually a nice workout and, more to the point, I know that if I’m able to get through the whole thing without a lot of strain, I’m actually in pretty decent shape. I started it on Monday with the idea that I’d just do the first couple of segments, no judgment. And the next time I did it, I’d make sure I got past that point, and get farther every time. So by the end of the week, I’d done it 4 times and had already progressed through the fastest, hardest part of it.

Then this weekend, I really got a bunch of project stuff done. I have a list of ‘monthly’ tasks around the house to do, and another list of ‘quarterly’ tasks, so both those are now in progress. Most impressively, I got all the bed-linens that only get washed every three months – the mattress pad, for instance – done, and the bed pillows and (luxurious) sofa pillows washed. No Jane Fonda over the weekend, but on Saturday, I did my standard 2.5-mile powerwalk looping the closed off 34th avenue, and on Sunday, I got a bit prettified and did the (substantial) walk to the cemetery and back (stopping for breakfast on the way back as per tradition). And I got so much done that by mid-afternoon Sunday, I felt I’d earned a break and still had energy to go out and do something else. (this is huge – my lack of energy, normally, has been a major sticking point, and I’m wondering if simply doing Jane Fonda four days over the week was that helpful. Well, plus the nice weather.) So I went out to Forest Hills and walked around, which is fun. By the time I got back home, I checked my Health app- I’d done 17,000 steps that day!

No wonder today I’ve been a total slug. I didn’t wake up early enough to do Jane. but I’ll pick it up again tomorrow.

Did a bit of ‘spooky October’ watching – watched the original Westworld on Saturday night. I hadn’t seen it in a long time. It’s a lot of fun, but not that great a movie – there are a lot of unanswered questions. I should give the TV series a try. And I started watching (the new) Salem’s Lot last night, but paused it after a half hour and watched the latest Agatha All Along.

I’m almost done with Succession, but now I’m adding Brilliant Minds and probably Matlock and Elsbeth is coming back at some point and I see the new season of Shrinking is in a week or so as well. So much content! (and hours of hours of political commentary, too. One more month til the election!)

More interesting stuff next time – going on another road trip, for instance.
