Just a quickie-post to get caught up, as I now need to dive into the posts about the trip. I think I’ve learned how to backdate posts, let’s see if that’s true.
I have loved being home and having almost nothing on the schedule. Getting caught up on TV, but mostly on paperwork (and laundry). So happy to be back to my piano, although I hope that piano tuner I reached out to online gets back to me soonest.
Finally did some food shopping yesterday. My goal is to concentrate on vegetables for a while, and try new recipes. (meanwhile using up the ‘protein’ servings I cooked and froze last summer, to go alongside) Last night I tried a charred romaine recipe that didn’t really come out that great, although I know the mistakes I made. I might revisit that at some point. I’ll make a frittata today, which will take care of half of the breakfasts, and for the other half, will make another batch of oatmeal once the steel-cut oatmeal I ordered arrives. (I was out of it! Why didn’t I order more when I used it up? Don’t know.)
It’s chilly now, so put the flannel sheets on the bed, that’s lovely and comfortable. Funny thing, though, when it gets colder, I tend to wear corduroy slacks to the office. I had about 4 pairs from last year. A few weeks ago, I wore one pair and it disintegrated on me in the ass region. Not just a split seam, but total annihilation. (luckily I was home at the time) Well, that was sad, but I brought another pair with me for my trip. Which did the same thing (also, luckily, when I was home and not in public). Which means I have two pairs left which are ticking time bombs. Well, I did wear one pair around the house this week and it did not explode. But still! Will have to wear these with caution. Or really, just buy new ones and get rid of them. So weird.
I had a nice Saturday outing with the G&S cabal to see NYGASP’s “Pirates”. NYGASP has really been putting in good work over the last few seasons, and this was no exception. Funny, well-cast, well-sung, lots of fun schtick (which Pirates lends itself to). Our little party included Marisa (who’s producing our shows this summer at the Festival, and MD’ing The Zoo) and Rick, who’s staging-directing the Pinafore I’m MD’ing. We had lots to discuss, particularly since audition materials are due soon. We all went out to a pizza joint around the corner, there was much conviviality.
This week will be more paperwork stuff (work the lists, girl) and the start of the January doctors’ appointments. And… Stereophonic, the play that won all the Tonys last year, is about to close. It sounds amazing, but I haven’t seen it yet because it’s long. My goal is to sneak out of the office tomorrow (I work a block from Times Square) and see if I can get a ticket for next Saturday’s matinee. Or Sunday, except that will be closing performance and probably harder to get. Or, failing that, any evening performance at all.
All right then. Happy Monday!
