Yeah, so I was traveling for four out of the last five weeks. Happy to be home, so happy. I guess I should do something about the completely empty fridge soon. Lunch yesterday was giving the new wings place across the street a try. Verdict – I’m about 40 years too old to be eating that (greasy, salty, way too tasty) crapola.
My last day at my dad’s place a few weeks ago, his apartment developed a huge leak in the ceiling in the home office. This turned out to be Not His Fault, it was an overall-building thing, but it still had to be dealt with and fixed, and that has made me super paranoid about leaving my apartment empty for a length of time. While I was in the UK, I had a neighbor come down and walk through it periodically. (and he texted me and said, ‘can I play your piano’? Yes, of course you can!) But I still remember the time C and I came home from France and discovered we had a moth infestation in the maid’s room (don’t @ me, that’s just what it’s called, we don’t actually have a maid in it) that ate half the rug and took weeks to get rid of. So when I come home from trips, I open the apartment door with a bit of trepidation. But All is Well.
The festival trip was wonderful! (and exhausting) We managed to produce two shows back-to-back that were both terrific and well-received. And I love being part of that community, even though age and introversion mean I opt out of a lot of the gatherings (shows, festival clubs), particularly if I’m on the directing staff of the show we’re doing. But this is about having fun while doing really interesting artistic work with people I love, and it was totally successful on that front. I will be bloggifying in great detail after the fact, so stay tuned for that.
I’ve very much given myself permission to Not Have to Do Things, at least until Labor Day. Just get caught up and take care of a lot of loose threads. Like my glasses broke (in a cosmetic way) a few weeks ago and I finally got the temples replaced so they look pretty again and I look less idiotic. Dropped off weeks of dry cleaning. There’s a haircut and mani/pedi in my immediate future. Food shopping. Installing that new media drive (which I’ve already been using, thanks to the magic of a dock I have that allows you to use an internal hard drive as an external one).
I have houseguests for a couple of nights next week, which will be fun (but a project that I have to prepare for). And my wedding anniversary the day before Labor Day, which I will be celebrating with a fancy meal and possibly a matinee, so need to set that up. And then we start with the real-life stuff again.
More soon.
